Automotive Service Technician Job Profile and Description

The role of an Automotive Service Technician is to, maintain and repair vehicles such as cars, vans, buses and trucks. Car dealerships, repair workshops and automotive manufacturing units typically hire such persons. An individual for a job of this genre is required to possess sound technical knowledge and follow all standard operating procedures relating to the job. Some organizations may require a candidate to undergo an on the job training process.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspecting vehicles and detecting technical faults.
  • Conducting servicing, conducting oil changing procedures for vehicles and suggesting the change of auto parts.
  • Noting customer grievances regarding the vehicle and diagnosing the same.
  • Coordinating with the purchase department of the organization for spare parts of vehicles.
  • Testing the vehicle engines to ensure seamless functionality of the same.
  • Coordinating work functions with other organizational departments.
  • Maintain the quality and standards of the organization.
  • Ensuring the compliance of all automotive safety norms and regulations.

Skills and Specifications

  • Should have excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and use diagnostic equipments like the electrical test tools to find problems in electrical systems.
  • Sound understanding of the functionality of automotive engines.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate work with other departments.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in electrical or automobile engineering or any other related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Post Graduate degree or a diploma in engineering or any other related discipline with 2 – 3 years experience as an automotive technician.
