Environmental management is a career where one uses his knowledge and training to manage the various environmental resources for the benefit of mankind and at the same time protecting the environment so that it resources are not misused or overused. There has to be a balance between man and nature and only then there will be harmony and it is the environmental manager’s job to ensure that the harmony is maintained. He must also have the scientific knowledge to protect the various natural resources and in a way are both managers and scientists. They may either be directly involved in the protection of the environment by being in the field or contribute by making various polices that will help manage the environment.

The duties and responsibilities of an environmental manager involve
- Researching various environmental hazards and materials which can cause harm to the ecosystem and mankind in general
- Suggest ways on how these harmful materials can be disposed of efficiently
- Identify the source of pollution and eliminate them before they can cause much harm
- Collect samples from water, soil, air etc to study the levels of pollution there
- May have to interact with various policymakers or companies to explain to them the environmental situation

- Physical fitness, an eye for details and analytical skills

The education and qualification requirements for an environmental manager are as follows:

- May study courses like biology, toxicology, zoology etc
