A Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of vehicles. Such mechanics are typically hired by car service centers, garages and by companies for the repairs of their vehicles. This job requires the candidate to execute their expertise in repairing and refurbishing of all types of vehicles. Most companies hold an on the job training before formally hiring such employees.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Thoroughly inspecting vehicles and detecting any malfunctions or damages and repairing the same.
- Estimating the time and cost of repairs.
- Interacting with customers and understanding the issues pertaining to their vehicles.
- Attending to telephonic calls of customers and addressing their queries and grievances.
- Recommending change of parts and other necessary services for the vehicle.
- Placing orders for necessary spare parts and ensuring the timely procurement of the same.
- Working in tandem with all automobile safety norms and regulations.
- Effectively coordinating work functions with fellow workers and other departments of the organization.
Skills and Specifications
- Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with customers.
- Ability to detect malfunctions in diesel as well as petrol auto parts.
- Sound understanding of using all repair tools, equipments and testing machinery.
Education and Qualifications
- High school degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
- Bachelor’s degree or an associate’s degree or diploma in mechanical or automotive engineering or any other related field of study, with 2 – 3 years of experience of working as a fleet or a fleet mechanic.
Forklift Truck Mechanic Job Profile and Description
The job of a Forklift Truck Mechanic is to ensure the proper functioning and operation of forklifts. Such mechanics are mostly hired by warehouses, shipping docks, manufacturing houses and other such facilities to ensure the proper transshipment of goods and materials. Individuals for jobs of this genre require being well acquainted with the safety and industrial regulations for operating such vehicles.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducting regular service and inspection of all forklifts.
- Ensuring that the equipment is functioning smoothly and is safe for operating.
- Interacting with forklift drivers to know of any malfunctions in the forklifts.
- Test driving the forklifts to detect issues and repairing the same.
- Maintaining a record of the service cycles and the part changes made in the truck.

- Bachelor’s degree or an associate’s degree or diploma in mechanical or automotive engineering or any other related field of study, with a license of operating a forklift and 2 – 3 years of experience of working as a forklift mechanic.
