A geological technician is an individual who is responsible for collecting, examining, testing and identifying various resources of the earth like rocks and minerals. They have to prepare reports after their findings in order to submit that to other members of the team. They also have to conduct research and analyze in order to discover new oilfields and mines. Most time of their work is spent in conducting field work. They are responsible for obtaining data that will indicate sources of gas, petroleum as well as metallic ore. A geological technician usually works in the field of mining and drilling. Sometimes they may also work as a research assistant or a lab assistant in a government agency, educational institute or a private organization. It is their duty to conduct inspection in compliance with the rules and regulations.

- Witnessing enclosure of reserve pits used for drilling in order to ensure that the loss of contents is minimized
- Conducting the process of research in order to discover new oilfields and mines
- Preparing reports of their findings in order to submit it to other members of the team
- Operating various geographical instruments like magnetometers and seismographs
- Maintaining maps of wells and storage facilities
- Overseeing plugging operations in the field and advising alternative measures
- Preparing mining plans for extraction of rock and sand
