In the fashion world, it is very important for designers, corporate houses and retail stores to publicise their products and build and maintain a positive public image. Public relations (PR) specialists and publicists help these companies or individuals to do that.
Duties and Responsibilities
- PR persons in the field of fashion need to creatively think of ways to promote and keep the company’s brand name in the public eye
- They select information about a new fashion line or products that they would want to share with the consumers
- They also need to write press releases and conduct press conferences in order to distribute this information different media like television, newspapers, magazines, radio and the internet
- They are also responsible for interacting with media and answer questions, especially if there is a crisis or any problem from outside sources
- They must maintain a good network and have professional relationships with media personnel
- They must have knowledge about the products
- They should follow and keep themselves updated on the fashion styles and also learn about the demographics of the consumers to know whom to target
Skills and Specifications
- A fashion PR person requires excellent written and oral communication skills
- He must also be able to present the information for the public in a clear and attractive way
- He should have basic knowledge of journalism, like knowing how to write press releases etc
- He must possess good interpersonal skills
- He must also have good time management and multi-tasking skills
- He should know how to work under pressure
Education and Qualifications
A degree or diploma in mass communication with specialisation in journalism, public relations and advertising is helpful. A degree in fashion designing and merchandising will also help the candidate know about the different nuances of the job.
