An ultrasound technician, also known as a sonographer is responsible for using machines that are used for the for the purpose of conducting diagnosis of internal organs of a human body by directing sound waves and creating echo mapped pictures. They can be found working in a pathology lab, nursing home, clinic or a hospital.
They are in charge of operating the sonographic scanner and ensure that it is working accurately while diagnosing the internal organs of the patient. An ultrasound technician has to explain the procedure in which the scanning will take place before the scanning takes place. They have to program as well as adjust the scanner in order to execute the process. An ultrasound technician can have specialties in examining cardiovascular organs, pelvic and also the abdominal region.
Ultrasound Technician Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of an ultrasound technician are as follows:
- Operating the ultrasound scanner in order to direct sound waves in the internal organs of the patient
- Programming and adjusting the scanner in order to execute the scanning process
- Explaining the scanning process to the patient
- Ensuring that the scanner is working accurately during the scanning process
- Taking multiple pictures of internal organs and storing them in a film or a disk and then sharing it with the physician in order to make diagnosis
- Taking care of the medical files of the patients’
- May have to sometimes prepare the work schedule
- Evaluate the purchase of a potential equipment
- Updating the records of the patients after the scanning process is over
